Context
2 Kings 9-10 is one of the hardest turns in Israel's story to hold. Ahab and Jezebel's dynasty has rotted the northern kingdom with idolatry and bloodshed, and Elijah's old warnings are finally coming due.
Jehu is not introduced as a gentle reformer. He is a career soldier, known for moving fast and hitting hard, and Elisha's prophet anoints him to end Ahab's house.
Story
The coup starts almost instantly. Jehu's officers hear he has been anointed, throw cloaks under his feet, blow the trumpet, and declare him king before the dust settles.
Then he gets in the chariot. Messengers ask if he comes in peace, kings ride out to meet him, and Jehu keeps driving until Ahab's son is dead in Naboth's stolen field.
Jezebel waits at the window with her hair fixed and her eyes done, refusing to disappear quietly. Jehu looks up and asks the palace who belongs to him.
who's on my side? Who?
The purge keeps widening. Ahab's seventy descendants are killed, Baal's worshipers are lured into one place, and Jehu stands over all of it claiming zeal for the Lord.
The text does not flatten that. God commends Jehu for carrying out judgment, then immediately tells us Jehu does not truly follow God. He can be an instrument and still be dangerous.
What We Learn
This story is not a how-to. It is Scripture reporting a brutal ancient power struggle without asking us to admire the brutality.
Jehu had the prophecy right and his own heart wrong. Being right about God does not automatically mean we are walking with God; sometimes it only means our ambition is facing the same direction for a minute.
The warning is the chariot, recognized from far away by the way it drives.
