Context
Josiah lost his father to a palace coup at eight and inherited a throne instead of a childhood. For two generations Judah had been running on borrowed time and forgotten Scripture. By the time he turns twenty-six, nobody at court has cracked open the actual law of Moses in living memory.
Story
He starts a routine temple renovation. New funding, repairs, paying the workers. Standard restoration project. Then the high priest, rummaging around, pulls out a dusty scroll.
"I think I found the Book of the Law."
The whole rulebook. The one their national identity was supposed to be built on, just sitting there behind something. They read it aloud to the king, and he has never heard these words before. So he rips his clothes, finds a prophet named Huldah, gathers the whole country, and reads the entire scroll out loud. All because somebody finally opened the book.
What We Learn
The Law wasn't lost in a fire or stolen by an army. It was just slowly forgotten, generation by generation, by the people whose whole job was to keep it.
