Context

Jesus is teaching when someone interrupts with a family inheritance fight. Instead of dividing the money, Jesus tells a story about a man who looks successful from the outside: productive land, overflowing crops, and the kind of problem people usually call a blessing.

Story

The farmer has more harvest than storage, so he starts planning only with himself. He will tear down the smaller barns, build bigger ones, store every grain, and finally relax like his future is fully secured.

you fool. Tonight your soul is required of you.

God does not argue with the math. He names the missing part: the man counted crops, barns, grain, and years, but never considered that his soul was borrowed.

What We Learn

The danger is not planning ahead. It is building a whole future around what can be stored while ignoring what cannot be owned.

A full barn can still hide an empty account with God.
