Context

Habakkuk is a prophet in Judah right before everything breaks. The courts are corrupt, the vulnerable are getting crushed, and the people with power are part of the problem.

His job is to speak for God, but his first move is to complain to God. The sky has been quiet too long, so Habakkuk stops dressing up the prayer.

Story

He asks how long he has to cry for help while violence keeps winning. God answers, but the answer is not comfort. Babylon is coming, and that feels less like justice and more like demolition.

Habakkuk pushes back again. If God is holy, how can he use an empire even worse than Judah to judge Judah?

the righteous will live by faith.

Then Habakkuk climbs onto the watchtower and waits. God does not hand him the full explanation. He gives him a line to live on, and Habakkuk turns the unresolved future into a song.

What We Learn

Habakkuk does not rush past the question to make faith look cleaner. His complaint stays in the book.

Faith can look like staying on the wall when the answer has not arrived yet.
