Context

Peter has fished the Sea of Galilee his whole life. It is the family business, the mortgage, the thing his hands know in the dark. And this particular night, the lake gave him nothing. Empty nets, hour after hour, until he finally calls it.

He is exhausted, done, already scrubbing the nets to go home and sleep. That is where Jesus walks up.

Story

A crowd presses in on Jesus at the shoreline. He climbs into Peter's empty boat, teaches from the water, then turns and tells Peter to head out to the deep and let the nets down. Peter is the professional here. He knows you catch fish at night in the shallows, not in broad daylight out deep. A carpenter from Nazareth is telling a commercial fisherman how to fish.

"We worked all night and caught nothing. But because you say so, I'll let down the nets."

He does not believe it will work. He says so himself. He lowers the nets one more time, tired arms, zero expectation. And they nearly rip apart. So many fish both boats start going under. Peter drops to his knees right there in the water, terrified of the one who knew where they were.

What We Learn

Peter did not get the miracle because he had faith it would work. He got it because he obeyed while certain it wouldn't.

Obedience isn't believing it'll work. It's lowering the net when every reason you've got says don't.

Sometimes the deep water is the only place He'll meet you.
