Context

Before the church takes root in Samaria, Simon already has the crowd. His magic has made him the local headliner, the man people call "the Great Power of God." Then Philip arrives preaching Jesus and healing people for free, and Simon watches attention move toward a power he cannot reproduce.

Story

Simon gets baptized and follows Philip, amazed by every miracle. When Peter and John lay hands on the new believers and the Spirit comes, Simon sees the moment through the only lens he knows: power has a price, and he wants in.

"May your money die with you," he goes.

Peter refuses to let the gift of God become a product. The room goes quiet, and Simon does not pitch, defend, or bargain. He asks for prayer.

What We Learn

Simon is not mocked as a cartoon villain. He is someone who knows acquisition so deeply that gift feels foreign. The story presses on the places where we reach for control because receiving feels too vulnerable.

  • Some gifts cannot be bought.
  • Open hands matter more than impressive offers.
  • The honest prayer can begin where the transaction ends.
