You're Going to Break

Context

Before Moses ever splits a sea, somebody has to tell him he's drowning. It isn't God. It's his father-in-law, Jethro, a priest out in Midian whose sheep Moses tended for forty years before the burning bush.

He's family. The kind who's earned the right to say the hard thing.

Story

Jethro shows up at camp, hears the whole Exodus story, throws a celebration. He's proud, all in. Then he watches Moses work for one day.

Moses sits from dawn till dark settling every dispute himself. A goat ate a man's grain. A marriage is falling apart. Two neighbors won't speak. All of it, big and small, lands on one person.

Jethro doesn't soften it.

"What you're doing is not good. You'll wear yourself out. The work is too heavy. You can't do it alone."

Then he hands Moses a plan: pick capable men, trust them, spread the weight. And Moses, the man who argued with a bush, just listens and restructures the whole thing.

What We Learn

The most spiritual man in the camp couldn't see his own exhaustion. It took someone who loved him to name it out loud.

We do the same thing. We call burnout faithfulness and think the breaking is proof we care. Saving the day every day isn't strength. It's a slow leak you can't see.
