Two Friends, One Hill

Context

By now Moses is the most famous leader Israel has. He stared down Pharaoh. He split a sea. People look at him like he has a direct line to God, because he basically does.

So you would expect the next scene to be about him being unstoppable. It is the opposite.

Story

The Amalekites attack. Israel is barely out of slavery, no army, no training, suddenly in a fight they did not ask for. Moses sends Joshua down to lead the soldiers, then climbs a hill with a wooden staff and holds it up.

That is the whole plan. When his hands stay raised, Israel wins. When his arms drop, Amalek wins. The entire war runs on one man's shoulder mobility.

But human arms give out. His start sinking, and every time they sink, men down on the field are dying.

Then Aaron and Hur move in. They sit him on a rock and each take an arm. No pep talk. They just become the staff stands until the sun goes down.

"I can't do this part by myself."

What We Learn

We tell this victory and we name Moses. The win actually belonged to three sets of hands, and two of them never got a statue.

The hard part is the rock. Letting people see your arms shaking. Saying out loud that you cannot hold this alone.

The man who parted a sea needed two friends to hold him steady. So did you.
