Six Silent Days

Context

Joshua just took over from Moses, and those are big shoes. The whole nation is finally inside the promised land, and Jericho is the first fortified city standing between them and everything else. Thick walls. Real soldiers. Not a place you march up to lightly.

So Joshua's expecting a strategy briefing. What he gets is a checklist that sounds like a prank.

Story

The plan: march around the city once a day for six days. Don't talk. Don't yell. Don't shoot anything. Just walk. Then on day seven, walk around seven times, blow the horns, and shout. That's the whole thing.

The army walks a slow circle around the walls — roughly the equivalent of your boss telling you the quarterly strategy is to stand in front of the building and say nothing. The people inside watch from the top. You can imagine the Jericho group chat lighting up.

Day three, the Israelites are getting weird looks from each other. Nothing has happened. No one has won. They just walked. Day four, day five, day six — the most public, most pointless-looking obedience in the Bible.

Then day seven hits. Seven laps. The priests lift the horns. Joshua finally lets them yell.

"And the walls don't crack, don't lean, don't get pushed — they fall."

Six silent days. One loud minute. That was the whole battle.

What We Learn

We almost never get the day-seven moment without the day-three test. The plan isn't really a plan by any normal measure. It's just keep walking when nothing visible is changing.

Faithfulness isn't always the dramatic yes. Sometimes it's lap four, in the dust, when nobody's clapping.
